Dr. Sean Chen is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Chen enjoys seeing general medical dermatology patients, pediatric patients, surgical patients, and cosmetic patients.
Dr. Chen was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He attended the University of California, Berkeley where he received his bachelor’s degree with honors in Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis in Immunology. During college, Dr. Chen was active in student government and founded a mentorship program for Pediatric Oncology patients. He was also awarded the Student Leadership Scholarship by the California Alumni Association. After graduating college, Dr. Chen spent a year performing basic science research at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California investigating molecular instruments for novel imaging modalities.
Dr. Chen earned his M.D. degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He then completed his transitional internship at the University of Hawaii and completed his Dermatology residency at the University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas. During residency, Dr. Chen received the Cognitive Excellence Award for outstanding performance on national examinations and iCARE award by the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas for excellence in patient care. Dr. Chen has completed research in the field of dermatology and plastic surgery and has contributed to peer reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, Cancer, and ePlasty. Dr. Chen is also a contributing author to a Plastic Surgery textbook on the repair of soft tissue facial defects after Mohs surgery. He has presented his research at national meetings. His research interests include skin cancers and improving patient satisfaction before, during, and after cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Chen also speaks French and Mandarin and in his free time enjoys hiking, surfing, snowboarding, snorkeling, learning new languages, and traveling.
